Martha Graham Dance Company |
The Martha Graham Dance Company, the oldest and most celebrated contemporary dance company in America, will play a special Paris engagement at the historic Théâtre du Châtelet April 14 – 18, 2009. They will be performing three separate programs of Graham classics, some making their Paris premiere at the 2,500 seat theatre a month before their New York City engagement. Paul Szilard Productions, Inc. in association with ATTRACT Productions are presenting the Martha Graham Dance Company in a special New York City engagement at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU, 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South from Tuesday, May 12 – Saturday, May 16. The acclaimed company will be performing two programs of Graham's classics and on Thursday, May 14 there will be a special Gala honoring international impresario Paul Szilard.
Of course the big news is the revival of Clytemnestra. This classic tale of love, betrayal and murder at the time of the Trojan War was re-imagined by Graham through the eyes of Agamemnon’s queen, the all-powerful Clytemnestra. Thefull-length Clytemnestra, is a landmark work not seen in its entirety in decades. Recently reconstructed for the company's 50th anniversary, it's believed by many to be Graham's finest dance-drama built on Greek mythology and the great Greek tragedies
